January and February

Hello! We've been learning a lot in the past couple of months! After the holidays, we looked at Spain's geography and what latitude and longitude are. The following week we kept our focus on Spain and took a look at the Meseta Central. Students learned what mountains and rivers are part of the Meseta and which ones are not. Our lessons continued with Spain's relief where we learned about Spain's depressions and coastlines as well as the elements and characteristics of a river. At this point the students had learned a lot of information for just one unit! Fortunately, there were online activities about mountain ranges like this worksheet and games (this one, too!) and other activities and worksheets to try and see how much they remembered about the physical relief of Spain.

At the end of the unit we took a look at the highlights of all that we had learned. We also played a game to review all of the content before the exam. We began the new unit about living organisms and cells. For this, we learned about the organization of cells, the types of cells, and the vital functions of a cell. This leads us into our next topic which will be classifying animals. That's all for now, but stay tuned for more information on all the content that's to come 馃槉

October, November and December with Nancy

Hello, it’s about time I introduce myself! My name is Nancy and I am the English Language Assistant (ELA) this school year at CEIP Antonio Rodr铆guez Almod贸var. I am from California, USA and this is my fifth year working as an ELA.

The first few weeks were spent introducing myself and getting to know how things worked around the school. At the end of October we were learning about different body systems such as the respiratory system, the excretory system, and the reproductive system.

Once we were done with the human body systems, we moved on to geography. In this unit, we talked about Europe. The students learned about different water and land boundaries that surround and form the continent they live in. The following week I shared a presentation that focused on inland Europe. We took a look at plains, mountain ranges, the European coastline, and important rivers in Europe and Spain.

Next on the agenda was winter holidays! I talked about Christmas and how my family and I celebrate this special holiday, but there are also other holidays the students may not have been familiar with.

Time has flown by and I am enjoying every minute of it. I will try to do a better job with this blog to keep you up to date on everything going on with the 6th graders and all the material they are learning in their science classes. I hope you all have a great winter break with your loved ones!

P.S. To view any of the presentations linked to this blog post, just click on the underlined word and once the tab opens click on Presentaci贸n (top right) to begin the slideshow!

The Black Plague of London

Hi everyone!

It is Daniella here. I know you have been learning about the spread of the ´Black Death´ in Europe in your history lessons. So, here is a video about The Great Plague of London, which happened between 1665 and 1666. It was very bad at the time because medicine was not very advanced, which means that they did not have many ways to cure people. And if you were poor, you didn´t have any chance!

Why do you think the Great Plague spread so quickly in a city like London?

Top tip - If you go on the settings icon on the video, you can put subtitles on in English to help you understand.

What are the different type of cells?

What are the different type of cells?

There are two main different type of cells.

Let´s investigate to compare them and know their differences and similarities

Using this information and comparing it with our NATURAL SCIENCE book information we can draw and compare the two main different type of cell.

The we can think about the following questions to review what we have learned.

1) What are the two main different type of cells?

2) Which one is the oldest?

3) Why are they different?

4)Where do they contain their DNA (genetic material)?

This video can help us to investigate and organize our ideas.

Now choose a living thing and demonstrate why is a living thing.

We know a living thing is made of cells but...

WHAT ARE CELLS?

Watch this video and underline the following information as the same time you are watching it...
